Doc Searls reports on the Linux Lunacy cruise

posted by AaronSw at 2001-11-01 23:49 (permalink)

AaronSw: "[...]the ship's Internet cafe, which presented the Net in 640x480 dimensions through a customized Microsoft Internet Explorer browser that cost $.75/minute or $99.95/week to use. Apparently some of us [...] inadvertently insulted the uniformed professional assigned to assist guests normally far less Net-hip than our contingency. She was not happy with campers who insulted her system verbally--or worse, tried to crawl under the tables and hack into it physically."
AaronSw: "Earth to Commerce: The Net belongs to nobody because we--your geeks--made it for every member of a species hungry for knowledge and human contact. We have no problem with any hospitality service charging us for access to it. But we don't like it dumbed down, or given a browser interface that's even more commercial than the ones we're already forced to use. Thank you. "

Chumpster Now Notifies Weblogs.com

AaronSw: I added a small bit to the code so that it calls Weblogs.com's pingSiteForm (which uses GET where it should use POST) whenever the Weblog is updated.
AaronSw: I hope I don't overload it, I got this message back once: "Thanks for the ping, however we can only accept one ping every five minutes. It's cool that you're updating so often, however, if I may be so bold as to offer some advice -- take a break, you'll enjoy life more."

Tara: Me too.
Morbus: Well that was anti-climatic. Only one capital? Sheesh <G>.
Tara: Fine. ME TOO! FRAMES SUCK! ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH! Happy now, Morby?

AaronSw: """P2PQ works just like Peer-to-Peer music services, but we don't share music; we help people share knowledge, connect to each other and find things and information. P2PQ is a dynamic directory of live people, available to you from anywhere and any device. Best of all, this service is FREE! Download the P2PQ client and 'Put your mind online!'"""
