A::Turns out Dave just wants to be loved: "Honestly, I didn't think they even read my site. They don't link to me, or talk about me with any respect, so I misunderstood this. I thought they weren't reading, so why should they care if I choose to honor the sites that I love."

I think that we should enter the #swhack logs in the Turner Prize next year
00:08:39 [AaronSw]
lol
00:08:45 [AaronSw]
That'd be awesome.
00:09:22 [sbp]
print them all out, and paste them to the walls of a room... it'd be great
00:09:48 [AaronSw]
a room with a faulty lightbulb?
00:10:06 [sbp]
no, our comments would light up the room

:-)

It'd be pretty funny if folks spoke in HTTP error codes.
00:16:04 [sbp]
you'd need a few more error codes, I reckon
00:16:32 [AaronSw]
But you could drop them in from time-to-time.

Anyways today was the last day with a screwed up lunch which is caused by them rotating our schedule. I had my normal 3rd-block lunch today, but some incredibly annoying girl also had the same lunch as us and chose to sit at the same table.
00:28:19 [AaronSw]
I got to the table where I sit, and moved a backpack out of the way to sit down. Five minutes later I was interrupted with "No you ain't in my seat boy you best move before I kick your ass outta that chair".
00:28:19 [AaronSw]
I didn't move though, because 1) It was really annoying and 2) I appreciate proper grammar when applicable.
00:28:20 [AaronSw]
So I didn't move, and she yelled at me for about 20 seconds, then I decided it'd be best to move to the other side of the table, and I did.
00:28:20 [AaronSw]
Tommorow we resume our regular schedule and I really hope she isn't planning on sitting at that table again.

02:47:49 [tav`]
the bloke from england who went to p2p.II / freenet
02:47:53 [AaronSw]
oh cool
02:47:58 [AaronSw]
had a feeling
02:48:00 [AaronSw]
what'd he say?
02:48:10 [tav`]
we discussed things he had in mind
02:48:12 [AaronSw]
yeah it is just a playground for sam's bot
02:48:23 [tav`]
he's like me two years ago
02:48:33 [AaronSw]
uh oh
02:48:39 [AaronSw]
we might have two tavs then
02:48:43 [AaronSw]
that could be bad
02:48:50 [tav`]
in his flat; has interesting ideas; doesn't have a clue technically
02:48:53 [sbp]
Pff... ban one, and another one takes its place
02:49:09 [tav`]
well, not really doesn't have a clue, but, doesn't know much technically
02:50:09 [tav`]
sbp: heh
02:50:14 [sbp]
:-)
02:50:58 [tav`]
hmz
02:51:05 [tav`]
we need to optimise xena's output
02:51:13 [AaronSw]
optimize?
02:51:56 [tav`]
a) stop relay outputs b) be able to specify which channels are "outputted"
02:52:21 [AaronSw]
i agree on the first
02:52:30 [deltab]
"output"
02:52:47 [AaronSw]
i think it'd be cool to have a little tool that'd construct a filtered view of the xena output from the assorted logs
02:52:59 [AaronSw]
so you can sort of scroll up and down, and diagnose crashes and things
02:53:08 [AaronSw]
and filter channels, i suppose
02:53:49 [tav`]
yea
02:54:07 [tav`]
killarny wanted to created a curses based output
02:54:23 [tav`]
you could hit tab and cycle between preset channel outputs
02:54:29 [AaronSw]
it'd probably be a major pain tho, since killarny has like a 1000 little files it logs to
02:54:55 [tav`]
problem is, you'd just create a new irc client at the end of the day
02:55:00 [AaronSw]
exactly
02:55:49 [tav`]
you should create a cool xnet channel monitor like app for the mac
02:55:54 [tav`]
talon made me mine
02:56:17 [AaronSw]
hmm?
02:56:23 [tav`]
collapsible 50 pixel high transparent app that relays #esp and #esp-core
02:57:28 [AaronSw]
just shows the last thing said?
02:57:33 [tav`]
yea
02:58:05 [tav`]
last coupla lines
02:58:24 [tav`]
and you can set some words that it would beep / change line color on
02:58:38 [AaronSw]
no see the idea is less irc :)
02:58:58 [tav`]
well, that app helps minimise
02:59:12 [tav`]
no need to keep eye on any irc channels, or xena output
02:59:20 [tav`]
it just floods past you
02:59:20 [AaronSw]
leaving the channel seems to have worked better for me :)
02:59:37 [tav`]
you are still here...
02:59:50 [tav`]
irc time expands to fill up all available time
02:59:54 [AaronSw]
yep
03:00:02 [AaronSw]
oh, you mean do it for #swhack?
03:00:09 [tav`]
no matter how many or how few channels there are
03:00:18 [tav`]
well, any channel
03:00:34 [AaronSw]
that reminds me i really should be quitting IRC about now
03:00:37 [AaronSw]

zwiki comes closest, but fails to match one of your criteria
04:35:08 [AaronSw]
the zope one?
04:35:14 [tav`]
may 2000, i went through every fucking wiki out there
04:35:25 [tav`]
zwiki beats them all hands down
04:35:41 [AaronSw]
i don't see revert/history on zwiki.org...
04:35:51 [AaronSw]
oh wait
04:35:56 [tav`]
it's there
04:36:07 [AaronSw]
yeah, it's hidden behind the zope management interface
04:36:12 [tav`]
needs a better front mechanism
04:36:12 [tav`]
yea
04:36:21 [tav`]
only weakness is diff
04:36:35 [tav`]
the current diff _sucks_
04:36:44 [AaronSw]
Hmm.
04:36:50 [AaronSw]
How do I get XML out of it?
04:37:12 [tav`]
create a tal / dtml method called index_xml
04:37:18 [tav`]
call whatever method you want
04:37:27 [tav`]
and, tada!

04:39:42 [AaronSw]

no, redirect to the space
04:40:16 [AaronSw]
hopefully i'll have my new server by then, so i can stick it on their
04:40:26 [AaronSw]
err there
04:40:27 [tav`]
oooh, new server
04:40:32 [AaronSw]
i decided to name my server vorpal
04:40:37 [AaronSw]
from jabberwocky
04:40:45 [AaronSw]
i thought that was a cool server-naming theme
04:40:58 [tav`]
heh
04:41:06 [tav`]

04:41:11 [AaronSw]
heh heh heh
04:41:21 [AaronSw]

04:41:46 [tav`]
but does vorpal beat mewtwo?
04:41:50 [tav`]
i think not!
04:42:05 [AaronSw]
I think so.
04:42:18 [AaronSw]
A vorpal blade could skewer mewtwo easily.
04:42:49 [tav`]
* tav` doesn't recall enough of the movie to say what mewtwo would do in defence
04:43:19 [tav`]
anyways, two more things to do, and i would have made the bestest fucking zope setup ever!
04:43:51 [AaronSw]
what two things?
04:45:08 [tav`]
load up the storage server and create an application object and then external mount the berkeley db
04:45:52 [AaronSw]
umm, ok
04:46:24 [AaronSw]
* AaronSw is excited about vorpal -- servers sure are cheap these days.
04:47:32 [tav`]
spec?
04:48:03 [AaronSw]
1Ghz P3, 40GB, 128MB $668.00
04:48:21 [AaronSw]
plus another gig of RAM from Crucial for $176
04:48:56 [tav`]
ehm, what kinda ram / hard disk drives are they?
04:49:08 [tav`]
seems fucking cheap
04:49:16 [AaronSw]
yeah, it is
04:49:34 [AaronSw]
i dunno, just plain stuff
04:49:40 [tav`]
is that a normal PC or server quality?
04:49:48 [AaronSw]

04:52:59 [tav`]
i feel for your cpu
04:53:10 [AaronSw]

04:53:23 [tav`]
20GB2, 40GB, or 60GB 7200 RPM ATA100 EIDE Hard Drives (Up to 3)
04:53:24 [tav`]
04:53:49 [tav`]
EIDE kills cpu
04:53:54 [AaronSw]
hmm
04:54:09 [tav`]
or at least that's the reason the espians gave for getting scsi disks in there
04:54:35 [AaronSw]
i don't think it'll be much of a problem -- i don't plan on getting slashdotted or anything
04:54:51 [tav`]
where's the current sites being run from?
04:55:10 [AaronSw]

04:57:56 [tav`]

04:58:12 [AaronSw]
dunno
04:58:22 [tav`]
hmz, what machine are you on now?
04:58:32 [AaronSw]
what machine am i sitting at?
04:58:49 [AaronSw]
i'm sitting at my TiBook
05:00:13 [tav`]
* tav` understood that to be your main machine
05:00:25 [AaronSw]
yeah
05:00:40 [AaronSw]

05:01:17 [AaronSw]
which sort of sucks because I can never really send it in for repairs.
05:02:32 [tav`]

but we can turn CSS off for ns4 or something

23:45:39 [hazmat]
sorry bout the flood
23:45:43 [hazmat]
Let me posit a scenario. Imagine that some Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) software company decides it wants to be the authorization service that all must pass through to get things done. Also further posit that this COTS proprietary operating system is found on the majority of the deployed systems under consideration. The COTS vendor then brings out an Xtra Proprietary version of its OS, which contains a client that uses XML signatu
23:45:44 [hazmat]
y XML signatures) for security. All the XML code points to this vendor's servers to provide information, sort of like a non-public PKI infrastructure. This client becomes widely used for authentication simply because it's easy to set up as a default since the OS is widely used. Also, said manufacturer embeds it in its popular "free" browser as the default security mechanism.
23:45:44 [hazmat]
To put the icing on the cake, say this vendor starts to charge someone (perhaps the merchant and, indirectly, the consumer) every time its servers are used for authentication by this client. Voila! Monopoly and revenue streams all in one.

heh heh. cite?
