hi
01:21:37 [davb]

01:21:55 [davb]
we need a release to get the openacs mojo going.

02:04:14 [davb]

02:05:44 [rbm]
I am working! :)
02:06:19 [rbm]
When I'm done with this site, OACS 4.5 will have Paypal, echecks and western union service contracts
02:06:30 [davb]

heh
02:08:20 [davb]
do you know how/if I can do a cvs diff on a previous version of a file?
02:09:31 [rbm]
passing the -r flag
02:09:38 [davb]
ah cool.
02:09:43 [rbm]
refcards.com has a nifty cvs cheat sheet
02:09:51 [davb]
yeah, I have one here....
02:09:59 [davb]
thanks for reminding me :)
02:10:18 [rbm]
davb: BTW, have you ever heard of a openacs CVS mailing list where all the commits are sent to?
02:10:29 [davb]
no
02:10:33 [davb]
why is there one?
02:10:37 [rbm]
do you recall anything on the boards about that?
02:10:41 [davb]
nope
02:10:45 [rbm]
That's what I thought.
02:10:46 [davb]
that should be part of the sdm
02:11:05 [davb]
i never even get any email from the sdm though...
02:11:15 [rbm]
See, I was thinking of setting up one so I started seeing what it would take and poking through the CVS config files on the openacs.org box...
02:11:28 [rbm]
and lo and behold it looks like there is such list already created, but nobody was ever told about it.
02:11:34 [davb]
heh
02:11:36 [davb]
oops
02:11:48 [rbm]
I e-mail'd the other gatekeepers about it, but haven't gotten a reply yet
02:12:52 [rbm]
Let me retract... the CVS loginfo file is sending e-mail upon commits to openacs-cvs-list@openacs.org. Since we use the very-weird-and-non-standard qmail, I couldn't check if that e-mail address actually exists or not.
02:13:06 [davb]
make a .qmail for it.
02:13:16 [rbm]
elaborate please
02:13:52 [davb]
qmail delivers mail to a maildir. if there is a .qmail for an address, it processes it. you can forward and setup mailing lists etc that way.
02:14:19 [davb]
so you can setup aliases to other addresses using a .qmail file.
02:14:43 [rbm]
where does this .qmail file go?
02:14:59 [davb]
let me check
02:15:29 [davb]
i am not sure, I use virtual hosting, so its different :)
02:16:26 [davb]
we need a qmail expert.
02:16:34 [davb]
* davb nods to shagster
02:17:27 [davb]
which < > is the new file and which is the old file for diff?
02:18:00 [rbm]
hmm?
02:18:06 [rbm]
diff new old
02:18:22 [davb]
yes, but in the diff which < or > is new/old?
02:22:38 [rbm]
Whatever comes first is the new one
02:22:54 [rbm]
< just means "was taken out" and > means "was put in"
02:23:09 [davb]
ok.
02:24:01 [davb]
ah cvs log is very handy. all has been revealed

davb: have you thought or looked anymore at using XUL to build an interface to OACS?
02:48:55 [davb]
no, but it sounds cool.
02:49:04 [talli]
i don't think it would be that difficult
02:49:17 [davb]
no, i suspect not.
02:49:17 [talli]
i was speaking with a mozilla developer today, the guy i share an office with
02:49:41 [davb]
cool.
02:49:47 [talli]
what i was thinking is that one could build a XUL interface, pretty much a basic GUI client, that used XML-RPC to speak with the OACS
02:50:00 [davb]
yes.
02:50:03 [davb]
or webdav
02:50:04 [davb]
:)
02:50:09 [talli]
if, for instance, the Blogger API were applied, it could be done pretty quickly
02:50:11 [davb]
composer already has xmlrpc in it.
02:50:22 [davb]
or just write our own API.
02:50:23 [talli]
sure, if you want to build webdav into it
02:50:29 [talli]
no, Blogger APi
02:50:33 [talli]
standards are good
02:50:43 [davb]
the blogger api is kinda limited.
02:50:55 [talli]
composer doesn't have XML-RPC built in, XUL has XML-RPC built in
02:50:58 [davb]
but it would be good to support it.
02:51:00 [talli]
composer is built on XUL
02:51:15 [davb]
ah. ok, somone put a radio userland or blogger or something itnerface onto composer.
02:51:59 [davb]
talli: have you also seen the flash mx rich text editor?
02:52:21 [talli]
i haven't

13:09:08 [denshi]
I got to see Trainspotting in the theatre again last night
13:09:25 [denshi]
now I'll be humming Lou Reed all day
13:09:27 [davb]
is that a good movie?
13:09:31 [davb]
ah
13:12:52 [denshi]
It is one of the best
13:13:01 [davb]
i might have to watch it.

13:17:14 [denshi]
this group does highly structured Tcl on Aolserver connecting to Postgres. Most here run linux, but the tools run on other platform
13:17:34 [Timaah]

postgres
13:17:43 [Timaah]
not bad
13:17:50 [Timaah]
i prefer mysql though
13:17:56 [davb]
uhoh.
13:17:59 [davb]
:)
13:19:51 [denshi]
mysql is coming along; I regularly argue with Heikki Tuuri about implementation details
13:20:19 [denshi]
but most of us were raised on more mature DBs with features MySQL doesn't provide
13:21:05 [davb]
denshi: I like the way you phrased that.
13:21:17 [Timaah]
ya
13:21:21 [Timaah]
* Timaah applauds
13:21:42 [denshi]
davb: enough of your jibberjabba. go see Trainspotting.
13:21:56 [Timaah]
that's a crappie movie
13:22:15 [davb]
i doubt it is playing anywhere around here, and we don't have a decent video store for 15 miles or so.
13:22:18 [denshi]
man, we've got taste boundaries popping up all over the place
13:22:32 [Timaah]
Timaah has left #openacs
13:22:34 [davb]
so Timaah, what brings you to #openacs?
13:22:45 [davb]
oh, I guess he had enough of our strange brand of hackery
13:23:57 [denshi]
'decent video store' is sometimes hard to find
13:24:19 [davb]
yeah. I basically am planning on buying anything I think I would like on DVD instead of renting.
13:24:29 [davb]
but I might try netflix.
13:24:44 [denshi]
ya
13:25:26 [denshi]
I recently found out that blockbuster edits movies. it does its own wierd variant of censorship
13:25:35 [davb]
aigh
13:25:46 [davb]
weird.
13:26:04 [denshi]
so people will go rent a challenging movie, then find it completely incomprehensible because scenes are chopped up
13:26:08 [davb]
we rented "blazing saddles",from there several years ago. It was really short.
13:26:19 [davb]
I though I was going insane, all the funny parts were missing.
13:26:25 [denshi]
I don't understand how that enhances shareholder value
13:27:57 [davb]
all out blockbusters mysteriously turned into hollywood video.
13:28:01 [davb]
s/out/our
13:31:22 [denshi]
if they don't feel the need to appoint themselves to post-production, then they're welcome to be there
13:31:49 [davb]
sounds good to me
13:32:25 [denshi]
working in video editing last year totally demonstrated the many possible ways one can ruin video
