- hi dave
- 00:57:49 [davb]
- hello k2pts
- 00:58:08 [k2pts]
- how are you?
- 00:58:46 [davb]
- good, working alot of a custom etp for a client job.
- 00:59:26 [k2pts]
- that's great...
- 00:59:51 [k2pts]
- did you get my message w.r.t search
- 01:00:01 [davb]
- yes, thanks.
- 01:00:49 [k2pts]
- np. i'm really going to do those improvements -- soon I hope.
- 01:01:07 [davb]
- hopefully this will lead to some $$$ and I can roll some improvments back into the toolkit.
- 01:01:53 [k2pts]
- that would be great...how's the top secret project going :)
- 01:02:17 [davb]
- Well this is it :)
- 01:02:30 [k2pts]
- oh
- 01:02:38 [k2pts]
- great
- 01:03:14 [k2pts]
- i'm depressed during the weekends (not much traffic to the mailing lists I'm subscribed)
- 01:05:30 [davb]
- thats too bad. I joined a list this week, but it was over 200 messages a day, I had to quit :)
- 01:05:51 [k2pts]
- sounds like qmail :)
- 01:09:05 [davb]
- its was a new list for css, it was really good, just too much for me
- 01:09:23 [k2pts]
- css as cascading style sheets?
- 01:10:33 [mindst0rm]

- 01:10:59 [k2pts]
- hi mindSt0rm
- 01:11:30 [mindst0rm]
- hi. The last time I was here I was inquiring about mod_aolserver.
- 01:11:39 [davb]
- hi
- 01:12:22 [mindst0rm]
- also does anyone know if there's a port to support sapdb?
- 01:12:33 [davb]
- of OpenACS?
- 01:12:35 [k2pts]
- openacs port? No.
- 01:13:42 [mindst0rm]
- *sigh* I was itching to play with a CMS and sapdb. SAPdb looks pretty cool.
- 01:14:51 [davb]
- I doubht there is one.
- 01:16:20 [mindst0rm]
- It appears that mod_aolserver is gone too. I care not to install another webserver. Is there a way to make Apache work with OpenACS?
- 01:16:39 [davb]
- not currently.
- 01:16:57 [mindst0rm]
- mod_tcl?
- 01:17:06 [davb]
- That will only get you halfway there.
- 01:17:22 [davb]
- there is a tcl pcakage that provides most of the AOLserver database API nstcl
- 01:18:10 [davb]
- I think that combined with mod_tcl would be most of the way there. but probably some more tcl glue would be needed to complete the rest of the AOLServer tcl API
- 01:20:05 [k2pts]
- mindst0rm: afaik there are no plans to support other web servers. you would be better off installing aolserver...
- 01:21:27 [davb]
- yes, it is not too tricky to install and plays nicely with apache
- 01:21:28 [k2pts]
- dave: btw, do you know whether jong is still going to port the i18n patches to 3.4.2?
- 01:22:04 [mindst0rm]
- I see the benefits of AOLserver, but the config file is... well... funky.
- 01:22:28 [k2pts]
- that's np. openacs comes with a default nsd config file.
- 01:22:44 [k2pts]
- you can start learning from that...
- 01:23:05 [mindst0rm]
- I made the mistake of building from source.
- 01:23:34 [k2pts]
- have you checked the openacs installation guide for aolserver?
- 01:23:47 [davb]
- k2pts: I am not keeping track of i18n stuff, so I am not sure.

- mindst0rm: simple aolserver installation guide
- 01:25:53 [mindst0rm]
- The basic idea is to understand how ACS works then move up to the Java (ArsDigta) version. Hopefully 5.0 will be out or our team has had enough time to grok how the db abstraction stuff works so that we can write a module to support postgres.
- 01:27:06 [davb]
- I don't know how much OpenACS will help you understand acs java.
- 01:28:57 [mindst0rm]
- The basic mechanics are the same. I'm looking how to intergrate our existing sites into ACS.
- 01:29:45 [mindst0rm]
- I don't have the hardware at home to run Oracle so OpenACS looked like a good start.
- 01:30:14 [davb]
- if you want a Tcl version, OpenACS is it.

- 01:35:12 [k2pts]
- k2pts has left #openacs
- 01:36:29 [mindst0rm]
- Right. The deal is to get the TCL version working so that from a sysadmin point of view, I can support any version of ACS. The java stuff is cool. What would be cooler is getting it to work with postgres. I have a java coder that is willing to contribute to the java code base. But we need to understand how the OpenACS postgres code works first.

- re
- 16:00:25 [davb]
- hi
- 16:01:02 [jim]
- I need help/guidance/docs to fix wp-slim's data model drop script
- 16:02:36 [jim]
- first, a ref on pl/pgsql would be a good thing... second, why would deleting anacs_object not also remove its index row?
- 16:03:17 [davb]
- good question.
- 16:03:36 [jim]
- oh, and also,
- 16:03:44 [davb]
- Ok pl/pgsql read the postgresql docs. Roberto's pl/sql to pl/pgsql porting guide is in there.
- 16:04:04 [jim]
- ok, got that
- 16:04:24 [davb]
- I think thats probably it, unless you buy a book. But I think everything is in there.
- 16:04:46 [davb]
- Are you getting an error message?
- 16:04:49 [jim]
- any -really- good books?
- 16:04:58 [jim]
- I blew away my db...
- 16:05:04 [davb]
- are you familiar with SQL already?
- 16:05:06 [jim]
- so anything now is stale
- 16:05:17 [davb]
- ie. have you used other database systems?
- 16:05:29 [jim]
- yep, I did a drop script for my reservation system
- 16:05:41 [jim]
- did the boot camp, so oracle
- 16:05:56 [jim]
- does pl/pgsql have cursors?
- 16:06:04 [davb]
- nope, you don't need them.
- 16:06:22 [davb]
- but I guess some people like to use them :)
- 16:06:28 [jim]
- ok, so things are really different
- 16:06:56 [davb]
- no so much, I think, you can do it without cursors in Oracle too.
- 16:07:07 [davb]
- did you read vinod's porting FAQ?
- 16:07:40 [jim]
- umm, I;m also trying to figure out if I'm running the right aolserver - pg driver
- 16:07:51 [davb]
- This one is supposed to be very good: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1861005156/qid=1012752525/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_3_2/103-7790041-9387828
- 16:08:13 [davb]
- aolserver 3.3+ad13 or 3.4 is ok. pgdrver 2.1 download from OpenACS.org
- 16:09:15 [jim]
- I get an error message on a 0or1row, saying "query was not a statement returning rows"
- 16:09:27 [jim]
- that doesn't make sense to me:
- 16:09:47 [davb]
- That is not the real error message.
- 16:09:48 [jim]
- if not a statement returning rows, wouldn't that qualify as "0 rows"?
- 16:09:58 [dlk-afk]
- dlk-afk is now known as dlk
- 16:10:12 [jim]
- ok...
- 16:10:20 [davb]
- THat is a message from the database driver. the real postgresql error message is back farther in the log. probably parse error at or near '(' :)
- 16:10:46 [davb]
- What you need it do, is go back in the log until you see the query with the real values in it that was actually passed to postgresql.
- 16:11:39 [jim]
- I haven't read the porting guide lately
- 16:11:43 [jim]
- so...
- 16:12:05 [jim]
- * jim gets that driver (or finds it)
- 16:12:49 [jim]
- I have pgdriver-2.0.1.tar.gz
- 16:13:05 [jim]
- I'll assume I'm ok on that front
- 16:18:12 [jim]
- loading all the initial openacs datamodel stuff
- 16:20:33 [jim]
- Do I need java for any of openacs?
- 16:23:57 [davb]
- nope
- 16:29:30 [jim]
- OK, the site's up again
- 16:57:48 [jim]
- ok, install wp-slim, remove, install, run drop script, run create script, remove all worked fine...
- 16:58:16 [jim]
- installing again
- 17:01:38 [jim]
- now checking out the package itself
- 17:04:09 [davb]
- excellent.
- 17:04:30 [davb]
- Oh you need me patch, it won't screw up unless you install another broken package or etp....
- 17:04:36 [davb]
- s/me/my
- 17:06:43 [davb]
- oops. except I forgot to generate the patch.
- 17:08:55 [jim]
- what patch?
- 17:09:48 [jim]
- and now that the drop script has things to drop, it's producing errors
- 17:09:59 [jim]
- referential integrity violations
- 17:11:11 [jim2]
- jim2 (~jim@12-233-187-5.client.attbi.com) has joined #openacs

- 17:11:30 [jim2]
- forexample
- 17:12:28 [jim2]
- ahh, that's the thing I was talking about earlier... shouldn't acs_object.delete get rid of the index key?
- 17:41:51 [davb]
- jim2: it probably does...
- 17:42:15 [davb]
- pg has a "bug" where if you delete somethign that refers to somethign else in a transaction you get that error.
- 17:43:11 [davb]
- jim2: my yet to be patch fixes the problem where wp-slim creates a presentation with a parent_id of NULL instead of the package_id.
- 17:43:26 [jim]
- shouldn't you delete the something else first tho?
- 17:43:29 [davb]
- if you have more than one wp, all presentations would appear in every wp.
- 17:43:48 [davb]
- jim: maybe... I never saw acs_obj_context_idx_and_id_fk before...
- 17:44:00 [davb]
- and I can't check right now, I am in windows :)
- 17:44:10 [jim]
- sheesh :)
- 17:44:34 [jim]
- yeah, it's time for me to play some vids too :)
- 17:44:35 [davb]
- what plpgsql function is returnign that error?
- 17:44:57 [davb]
- heh, I wish, I am doing graphics design (one man, one-stop shop :)
- 17:45:26 [jim]
- umm, haven't looked closely enough yet... howbout deal with your design for awhile, and I'll look close in awhile

- 20:12:07 [rbm]
- That should be a pretty good recommend :)
- 20:12:10 [rbm]

- 20:12:20 [jim2]
- that would be a pretty good recommendation, there...
- 20:12:30 [jim2]
- where are you located?
- 20:18:17 [davb]
- jim: ah, that is a messy way to do it.
- 20:30:39 [jim2]
- maybe what I can do is determine the exact data model and totally revamp those scripts
- 20:31:05 [jim2]
- even make it unmount all its instances as it goes
- 20:41:33 [davb]
- that is a challange. all the packages I have worked on so far, are singletons :)
