00:00:52 [vinod]
actually - i never checked...
00:01:12 [vinod]
looks like XML mode (which is probably from PSGML)
00:01:56 [vinod]
ahh yes: (add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist '("\\.adp" . xml-mode))
00:03:12 [til]
good, i'll try that ... html-mode always complains about some missing catalog
00:04:04 [vinod]
yeah, you need to point it to a CATALOG file. roberto's docs-howto in new-file-storage explains how (if you need it )
00:06:09 [til]
* til wanders to new-file-storage
00:09:52 [vinod]
here's the direct link: http://openacs.org/new-file-storage/one-file?file_id=271
00:10:52 [markd2]
always the direct one
00:11:13 [vinod]
actually, the info that i thought was in there isn't
00:11:22 [vinod]
hold on.. lemme find the super-direct link
00:12:11 [markd2]
always the super-direct one
00:12:17 [vinod]
aha: just below that one - http://openacs.org/new-file-storage/one-file?file_id=272
00:12:28 [vinod]
direction is always relative
00:13:44 [til]
thanks
00:14:09 [vinod]
np

til: you can also try mmm to make an html/tcl mode (I stole it from rbm's .emacs)
01:39:43 [til]
i remember never getting this to work with .jsp files, but that's some time ago
01:40:14 [davb]
I couldn't get psgml mode working with adp files, but the mmm mode thing works. you just need the mmm emacs package.
01:40:52 [markd2]
mmm.... emacs....
01:41:50 [til]
ah, mmm is apt-gettable
01:42:24 [davb]
yes. very handy. I can send the part of the .emacs file.
01:42:33 [til]
* til understands markd2's joke after only 5 minutes
01:42:56 [til]
davb: yes pls (tils@tils.net)
01:44:12 [davb]
oops... vim messed up the tabs...
01:44:41 [til]
you are editing .emacs with vim?
01:45:10 [davb]
no, that is what is set for the editor for mutt
01:45:12 [davb]
:)
01:47:13 [davb]
I sent it, let me know if its too messed up :)
01:48:25 [til]
no passwords in it, what a pity
01:50:07 [til]
(vinod sent his aim password by accident with his .emacs previously)
01:50:30 [markd2]
2sexy4myAIM
01:50:42 [markd2]
everyone's known it for awhile
01:52:25 [til]
haha
01:56:33 [til]
thanks dave, got it (still readable)
01:56:40 [davb]
cool. np.
01:56:56 [davb]
I hope it works for you. I commented out the adp part in the psgml section.
01:59:27 [til]
now i will start using <% %> again, just because this mode is so cool ;)
02:00:28 [davb]
excellent.
02:00:49 [davb]
I have a stupid emacs question. How do I set server mode?
02:01:06 [til]
M-x gnuserv-start ?
02:01:54 [til]
in xemacs only i think
02:03:21 [davb]
or (server-start) in the .emacs file.
02:03:29 [davb]
thanks.
02:05:06 [davb]

hey guys. anyone here today?
21:29:23 [davb]
hi. I am here for a little while.
21:29:30 [talilee]
hey davb. how's it going?
21:29:41 [davb]
not bad. I am fooling around with NSSoap
21:29:49 [talilee]
how's it look?
21:30:07 [davb]
it looks pretty good, just needs docs :)
21:30:18 [talilee]
as does everything...
21:33:40 [davb]
it is very nice. you specify a remote method and it creates a local tcl proc to call it.
21:33:58 [talilee]
sounds nice. what is an example?
21:34:05 [talilee]
what do you want to use it for?
21:34:19 [davb]
oh, to get it working with the blogger/radio userland api.
21:34:42 [davb]
someone wrote a tool that can access it that runs in mozilla. so you can post to a web site using it.
21:34:44 [talilee]
what is your vision for using that stuff?
21:34:49 [talilee]
ah, right i saw that
21:35:05 [davb]
also it would work with radio userland. and there are more desktop tools coming every day.
21:35:27 [davb]
I really like the idea of a custom tool that runs in Mozilla.
21:35:54 [davb]
Of course, one that runs in IE would probably be easier to sell to most clients.
21:36:16 [talilee]
yes, that's true.
21:36:26 [davb]
plus SOAP is a nice bullent point :)
21:36:30 [talilee]
and .NET purpotedly provides a framework for building such apps
21:36:39 [talilee]
but i think that things like dreamweaver are nice.
21:36:41 [talilee]
nicer
21:37:12 [davb]
Possible for building templates and HTML, but not as writing tool.
21:37:28 [talilee]
but i don't know if he wants to GPL the stuff...
21:37:49 [talilee]
do you think that nssoap is a mature module (lacking docs, of course)? do you think it's a solid piece of work?
21:38:01 [talilee]
scott goodwin seems like a very good guy, so i assume it's decent
21:39:30 [davb]
I might not be qualified to judge it :) its better than the XMLRPC stuff I hacked together.
21:39:46 [talilee]
:)
21:40:15 [davb]
It is built on top of TclSOAP which I think is a good package.
21:40:23 [talilee]
cool
21:40:42 [talilee]
what is the difference between extending AOLserver with Tcl or with C?
21:40:54 [talilee]
is it speed? why would a developer choose one over the other?
21:41:08 [davb]
Probably just speed AFAIK.
21:41:21 [talilee]
i see.
21:41:30 [markd2]
run-time speeed, and development speed
21:41:31 [davb]
NSSoap uses tclSoap tcl package, plus nsexpat and nstcldom C AOLserver modules.
21:41:40 [markd2]
tcl is *much* easier to work with than C
21:41:46 [hazmat]
also more access to underlying structures with c.
21:42:10 [hazmat]
enough rope to hang yourself with, so to speak ;)
21:42:11 [davb]
So the gnarly XML and DOM stuff is in C. with the easy stuff in Tcl.
21:42:23 [talilee]
ah, that sounds like the right appraoch :)
21:43:18 [davb]
Time to go to a b-day party. I might be back later. :)
21:43:29 [talilee]
enjoy!
