back
15:30:48 [davb]
ola: can you try www.airbydesign.com again?
15:33:23 [ola]
it works now!
15:33:33 [davb]
cool!
15:34:11 [ola]
dave, do you know your own site don't render almost at all in Netscape 4.7?
15:34:27 [davb]
yes.
15:34:31 [davb]
It uses CSS exclusivly.
15:34:52 [davb]
you really should switch to Mozilla.
15:34:54 [davb]
:)
15:34:57 [ola]
aha. NN 4 is too old anyways:-)
15:35:10 [davb]
the client doesn't seem to mind.
15:35:10 [ola]
I have both!
15:35:15 [davb]
oh ok.
15:35:18 [ola]
heh
15:35:37 [davb]
they didn't even notice that site has been unreachable for like 2 weeks :)
15:35:47 [davb]
due to the expiration of the domain
15:36:01 [ola]
lucky you;-)
15:36:12 [davb]
well they don't pay very well...
15:37:05 [davb]
hopefully the other domain will start working soon, I put in a bogus record and its pointing to the wrong place :(
15:37:15 [davb]
it expires in a little while hopefully.
15:37:28 [ola]
have you got a ongoing contract with them?
15:38:02 [ola]
(airbydesign that is)
15:38:04 [davb]
yes. its only $40/month though
15:38:20 [davb]
they finally want to update the site after like 2 years.
15:38:41 [davb]
I also want to get that site and the other one on OpenACS 4.
15:38:52 [davb]
Then I can whip out updates and new features in hours.
15:39:34 [ola]
how does OpenACS4 help updates?
15:39:49 [davb]
ETP
15:39:53 [davb]
templates
15:39:55 [davb]
etc...
15:39:58 [ola]
aha!
15:40:19 [davb]
those are just a batch of pages I whipped up in dreamweaver before I read PANDA
15:41:22 [ola]
so they dont use 3x either?
15:41:50 [davb]
nope.
15:41:59 [davb]
they are on apache on the mail server...
15:42:12 [ola]
I see.
15:42:41 [davb]
That is why I am interested in domain based subsites. Then I can run both of them on the same database and AOLserver.
15:46:59 [davb]
arghargharghargh!
15:47:13 [davb]
axfrdns is not working now.
15:51:07 [ola]
causes tcp services like mail to not work, or...?
15:51:43 [davb]
that is the domain transfer program to let granitecanyon get my dns so it can be the backup.
15:52:09 [ola]
oh...

16:08:49 [davb]
cool. I am chatting with NS again
16:09:11 [davb]
Also I have to install a bazillion updates to Office 2000 on all the machines here.
16:09:18 [davb]
(at work)
16:11:56 [zahn.openprojects.net]
zahn.openprojects.net has changed the topic to: OpenACS Social Recovery Network http://openacs.org
16:12:19 [ola]
right. thats a weekly occupation IIRC;-)
16:12:47 [davb]
we wait until it is a crisis. So you have to reboot like 11 times and download 200 seperate updates.

16:19:34 [davb]
this is super annoying and complicated.
16:20:27 [davb]
but it might actually get fixed.
16:22:32 [davb]
The worst part is the administrative contact has a bad email address in the database so its super painful to transfer to another registrar also
16:25:16 [ola]
the registrars I've come in contact with (two) could use an update to an OpenACS based service..
16:25:41 [Psychephylax]
bah
16:25:46 [davb]
i use buydomains.com they are fast with updates, but the page is broken in mozilla.
16:25:47 [ola]
hello!
16:25:51 [davb]
h i Psychephylax
16:26:55 [ola]
Psychephylax, rise and shine! :-)
16:26:56 [Psychephylax]
hi
16:36:35 [davb]
apparently the combined suckiness of netsol and my registar is multiplied
16:39:24 [ola]
and then divided by 0
16:41:30 [davb]
I still need to fix this domain thing because I am afraid my IP address wil change again so I need to be able to switch to the new server I am using.

17:49:01 [davb]
if so can you try www.okfilters.com
17:54:12 [davb]
the server is working, more DNS propagation...
18:00:05 [ola]
dave, I can get to okfilters.

I asked for a quote for AOLserver/Postgresql. They will run anything it looks like.
19:15:00 [davb]
with one database/aolserver pair and domain based subsites, you could run a few small volume sites on there for a reasonable price.
