15:22:57 [davb]
Ok. I am going out of town on wednesday for the rest of the week so I won't get much done after that. I'll let you know if I have any qyestions. I am basically going to copy the openfts-driver style to work with intermedia.

did you see any trace of the Leonids?
16:50:16 [ola]
it was too foggy here...
16:51:21 [davb]
A few. We woke up at 6am, it was getting light here.
16:51:34 [davb]
Those we saw were very bright.
16:51:43 [markd2]

hmm... I set the TTL field to 300 (5 minutes) for various aliases in the Tinydns "data" file and waited more than 5 minutes but they haven't propagated yet. why is that?
17:15:16 [markd2]
did you bump your sequence number?
17:16:11 [ola]
I don't think tere is such a thing in Tinydns, but I did a "make" and resrarted it.
17:16:32 [ola]

17:17:07 [davb]
what are you using as your DNS server for queries? Your ISP?
17:18:19 [ola]
what do you mean?
17:18:20 [davb]
the 5 minutes will start the next time a particular DNS cache server hits your DNS server after you made the changes. This happened to me last week :)
17:18:56 [ola]
aha
17:18:58 [davb]
ie: my ISP takes FOREVER to update its caches, often people outside can get to my sites before I can because my ISP is last to update the changes.
17:20:39 [ola]
I use a "dnscache" of my own. I dont use my ISP for my queries.
17:21:50 [davb]
ok.
17:22:41 [ola]
good explanation, Dave. thank you!

hi all
17:51:21 [k2pts]
hey doc
17:51:31 [docwolf]
got a question for you all.
17:51:47 [docwolf]
how can i create a PDF file in windows without Acrobat?
17:51:58 [docwolf]
from an MS word doc
17:52:19 [davb]
Wordperfect can do it.
17:52:19 [k2pts]
you can print it (save it in a file). this will create a postscript file.
17:52:29 [k2pts]
then convert it to pdf using available tools
17:52:33 [davb]
that is better.
17:52:52 [davb]
k2pts: good.
17:53:12 [k2pts]
davb: I'm checking in the changes right now. would you be able to repeat the tests we did this morning
17:53:13 [k2pts]
?
17:53:24 [k2pts]
i'll let you know when i'm done.
17:53:45 [k2pts]
I mean: create a basic item and check the workflow pages
17:53:53 [docwolf]
i'm not sure i understand this. Word offers no export or save a PS file
17:54:02 [k2pts]
when you print...
17:54:31 [docwolf]
when i print, my only choice is to my physical printer, or the fax.
17:54:36 [k2pts]
it gives you the option to print to file. if you have a laser printer configured (you don't necessarily need to have the printer)
17:54:54 [k2pts]
the file that is being created will be a postscript file
17:55:03 [docwolf]
ok. cool.
17:55:10 [markd2]
markd2 has quit ("Bork")
17:55:50 [k2pts]
davb: or you can just do the installation and let me know when it's ok to browse to your site
17:55:57 [davb]
k2pts: sure.
17:56:03 [k2pts]
ok great. thanks
17:56:09 [davb]
let me know when its ready to install.
17:56:12 [k2pts]
sure
17:56:23 [docwolf]
ok. it saves as a PRN file. excellent. Now, which tool can i d/l to generate a PDF? will ghostscript do it?
17:56:39 [k2pts]
rename to .ps (it's actually a postscript file)
17:57:05 [k2pts]
just search the net for available tools. i'm using ps2pdf under linux
17:57:05 [docwolf]
ok. done.
17:58:00 [k2pts]
just in case you see strange characters (then add a printer that you know is *standard*)
17:58:10 [davb]
I am going to lunch...bbl
17:58:35 [k2pts]
davb: enjoy, doc:and do it again. I don't expect problems though. if you can see it with ghostview it should be ok as a pdf file too
18:00:47 [docwolf]
sweet, thanks k2pts

[GlobalNotice] Hi all. We have another major server upgrade to go, and it occurs to me that now would be a good time to ask people some questions that would help us schedule upgrades. We don't have a polling mechanism set up, but if you could take the time to send us two pieces of information, we'd appreciate it.
18:30:15 [lilo]
[GlobalNotice] Send the following information to support@openprojects.net: What server you use to connect to us, and what times would be least annoying for you to experience server downtime. Give us times you're least likely to be on the network. Thanks!
18:31:59 [lilo]
[GlobalNotice] To make it more clear, send the following data in an email to support@openprojects.net: (1) the server name you connect to us with, and (2) what times of day (including timezone in plain English) would be okay for us to recycle the servers (example, 2am to 5am Central European Time)
