01:42:27 [AaronSw]
it's ok
01:42:32 [talli]
tough crowd
01:43:31 [AaronSw]
heh, did he write the news stories?
01:44:24 [talli]
ya
01:44:31 [talli]
so do you have recommendations for improvements?
01:44:57 [talli]
(i'm going to post something about it on the bboards, but we may set up a comment area at etp.museatech.net as well)
01:44:58 [rbm]
ETP looks great folks. Give it up for Luke, Talli and Musea!
01:45:03 [AaronSw]
WoohoO!
01:45:08 [talli]
moo?
01:45:16 [talli]
is it appropriate to say that?
01:45:29 [talli]
can someone plesae explain to me what the hell moo means anyway?
01:45:30 [AaronSw]
It'd be sorta cool if you could make some of the previous revisions public
01:45:35 [rbm]
talli: You only "moo" when you arrive at the channel :)
01:45:39 [rbm]
(or return)
01:45:39 [talli]
oh, ok
01:45:45 [talli]
sorry. oom
01:45:52 [talli]
i just sucked my "moo" back
01:47:06 [talli]
rbm: we will definitely check ETP into CVS, but luke had to run because he's moving into a new house tomorrow.
01:47:39 [talli]
so i don't know what the protocal is, but i think don might say something about that. is there a way to stick it in there without luke?
01:52:30 [rbm]
usually talk to Don. Do you want to keep ETP into the OACS4 tree? Or just the APM or a link?
01:55:25 [talli]
i think that's up to luke.
01:55:50 [talli]
i will ping don about it and tell him it's up to luke, but i imagine he'll want it in the tree with everything else.
01:56:03 [talli]
but i'm not sure he's had time to think about it.
01:56:21 [talli]
i'll email don and cc luke on it. i can't imagine why he wouldn't want it in the tree
01:59:02 [rbm]
it might be better to keep it your own tree, where you have more control. And then put the .apm in the soon-to-come acs-repository on openacs.org
02:11:39 [talli]
ok
02:11:42 [talli]
i emailed don
02:11:47 [talli]
we'll see what he says
02:56:25 [davb]
davb has joined #openacs
03:03:07 [davb]
talli: I think a way to specify templates from the web UI would be nice.
03:03:35 [davb]
Oh yeah, and don't display links to stuff like "site map" if I can't go there.
03:06:34 [davb]
* davb 's windows system is unstable again... :<
03:07:03 [talli]
hey
03:07:21 [talli]
you should post that stuff
03:07:24 [talli]
to the bboards
03:07:58 [davb]
Oh. Okay. No problem. Good idea.
03:07:58 [talli]
well, this is a demo, so we probably can make that stuff live.
03:08:14 [davb]
Sure. That was just off the top of my head.
03:08:20 [talli]
i tried to convince luke not to make this a 1.0 release, because it's not totally there.
03:08:34 [talli]
like image upload hasn't been enabled
03:08:39 [talli]
although that shuoldn't be too hard.
03:08:43 [davb]
Hey, did you see the aD stuff :)?
03:08:49 [talli]
which aD stuff?
03:08:53 [talli]
the CMS they built?
03:08:53 [davb]
All of it.
03:09:05 [davb]
Those numbers were way over 1.0
03:09:10 [talli]
oh, right :)
03:09:20 [talli]
yeah, well, luke *did* work at aD...
03:09:33 [talli]
no, he just said that when he adds a bunch more he'll call it 1.1
03:09:36 [AaronSw]
... and he claims not to have understood the CMS.
03:09:39 [talli]
and then 2.0
03:09:59 [talli]
yeah, luke's not understand means that he had to think more than 2 seconds about it.
03:10:25 [talli]
but roberto has been working on porting the whole CMS system, and he says that he hasn't really figured it out either
03:10:53 [talli]
if roberto and luke can't figure it out, then thing probably ain't that good.
03:10:54 [AaronSw]
i tried to understand it before porting blogspace and found it made too many assumptions that undermined what i wanted to do
03:10:59 [davb]
The CMS is way to complicated for someone who just wants to put a page up there.
03:11:20 [talli]
well, part of the problem with the CMS is that it puts too much out there.
03:11:27 [talli]
"metadata" and such.
03:12:02 [davb]
I think they just tried to put in every "feature" of the systems they aspired to compete with.
03:12:21 [talli]
and they built it for engineers
03:12:29 [talli]
who else would use frames?
03:12:40 [talli]
frames are the OOP of HTML.
03:12:45 [davb]
I don't know any engineers that will use frames.
03:13:06 [davb]
do I?
03:13:10 [talli]
then you don't know anyone at aD
03:13:29 [talli]
http://developer.arsdigita.com/acs-java/doc/api
03:13:29 [chump]
E: http://developer.arsdigita.com/acs-java/doc/api from talli
03:14:02 [talli]
E: ACS Java APIs, probably very complete and effective, but who's going to remember all these classes?
03:14:03 [chump]

18:14:25 [jgramlich]
are there instructions for installing oacs from source?
18:15:27 [rbm]
jgramlich: Yes. Check out openacs.org/4 (the porting guide)
18:16:36 [jgramlich]
is it any different for 3.2?
18:19:57 [rbm]
Yes. Very different.
18:20:14 [rbm]
For 3.2, read the Installation Guide: openacs.org/doc/openacs
18:20:46 [jgramlich]
when I do a gmake (i'm on freebsd) i get "No rule to make target '/usr/home/piocon/sources/aolserver-3.4//include/Makefile.global'"
18:21:36 [rbm]
Oh. You want AOLserver. Then read the "Simple AOLserver Installation Guide" on the same URL I mentioned above
18:22:39 [jgramlich]
hmmm...come to think of it...that's not right...i got aolserver to install already...
18:22:54 [jgramlich]
i wonder why the makefile is doing that nonsense...
18:24:22 [jgramlich]
i think i moved the wrong source directory to /web/piocon
18:24:29 [jgramlich]
piocon being the name of my server...

i've got an apache question, if anyone would like to dare (ducking)

throw it out and see what happens
20:45:25 [docwolf]
I can't get .htaccess to work with apache...
20:45:39 [docwolf]
on this server at least (1.3.14, i think..)
20:45:55 [docwolf]
it is interesting
20:45:59 [docwolf]
i can create the .htpasswd file
20:46:04 [docwolf]
and the .htaccess file

it's like it's not seeing the .htpasswd file
20:58:17 [AaronSw]
permissions?
20:59:10 [AaronSw]
All UNIX problems are of three types: code is bad, file is bad, or permissions. ;)
20:59:48 [docwolf]
nope.. just set it to the most permissive
20:59:51 [docwolf]
and it still can't see it

Hello.
22:26:18 [davb]
docwolf. For apache, i think you need to set something in the httpd.conf file to make it look in there.
22:31:16 [davb]
look for AllowOverride Allow and Limit directives. They seem to have something to do with it. I haven't actually ever used .htaccess though.
22:31:34 [AaronSw]
I think .htaccess overrides httpd.conf locally
22:32:18 [davb]
Those settings tell whether or not the server should look at htaccess and what to do with it I think.
22:32:36 [davb]
Also there is a setting for which filename is the htaccess file.
22:33:20 [davb]
* davb is not an Apache expert. I have it serving two static sites and it seems to work.
